Bullying Stopped by Football Team
Bullying. It seems to be the key ward for the year. We’ve heard so many stories of young people in middle school and high school being the brunt of everything from ridicule to violence just because they are different or quiet or new or whatever the bully decides is the fault. Well today I read an article that turns the tables. Instead of the horrific details of bullying run rampant, it’s the story of some young men who stood up for what is right. A young lady with special needs started high school as a freshman and was immediately targeted.
no sooner had Johnson enrolled at Queen Creek than she began being the victim of nasty bullying from a wide variety of fellow Queen Creek students, some of whom allegedly even threw trash at the 16 year old.
Her mother, trying to find a way to help her daughter called another student that she knew at the school. He was the high school quarter back–and he stepped in!
Jones decided to take it upon himself to protect the freshman, eating lunch with her every day and ensuring that she was protected by a phalanx of other football players when she walked through the hall.
The bullying has stopped and new friendships have been born. Chy even refers to them as “her boys.” What a wonderful story. I really hope this story reaches out and inspires others. All you have to do is be a friend and that can make all the difference in the world.
