Africa Mercy Bringing Hope to West Africa
In West Africa, a young mother suffered from debilitating scars left after she was burned in a house fire. Mercy came to her rescue. The doctors aboard the Africa Mercy performed the surgery that allowed her to lift her arms and better care for her four month old baby. The Africa Mercy is a ship owned and operated by Mercy Ships, a non-profit organization that has been providing much needed health care to West Africa for more than 30 years.
The Africa Mercy – whose operations are funded by foundations, private individuals, churches, and corporate sponsors – has been jumping from port to port along the West African coast since 2007
With its CT scanner, X-ray machine, blood lab, 78 patient beds, and six operating theaters, the Africa Mercy is easily the most advanced health facility within hundreds of miles.
